Women's group in Central Region rallies support to stop potential removal of CJ

A women’s group in the Central Region is up in arms against what it considers unfair moves to remove the Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office.

This comes after the President, on March 28, wrote to the Chief Justice through his Executive Secretary, asking her to submit a preliminary response to three petitions demanding her removal from office over alleged misconduct.

The women’s group, in a statement read by its spokesperson, Vivian Gassor, warned that the ongoing process not only threatens judicial independence but also highlights a disturbing pattern in the treatment of women in leadership.

“We hereby also call on the Council of State to see through the lines and, without any hesitation, unequivocally step in to prevent this removal process,” Gassor declared.

Meanwhile, the Chief Justice has submitted her preliminary response to the three petitions seeking her removal to President John Mahama after the ten-day directive to her expired on Monday, April 7.

The petitions received by the President earlier last month and have triggered national attention, prompting legal and constitutional debates on the appropriate procedure for handling such matters.
