We will enforce traffic laws to curb accidents- Dorcas Affo-Toffey

Deputy Minister-Designate for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has pledged to work closely with her sector minister to curb the increasing number of road accidents across the country, should her appointment be approved.

Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Friday, July 25, the Jomoro MP stressed the need for stricter enforcement of Ghana’s existing road traffic laws, noting that the majority of road crashes are preventable.

“Road accidents are a concern to the whole nation. Experts say that 80% of these accidents are caused by human factors. And so, when I’m given the nod, I will assist my minister to make sure that we put in place measures that would curb that,” she said.

She outlined several steps she believes can help reduce the death toll on Ghana’s roads. These include intensified public education, a stronger emergency response system, clear road signage, and the installation of speed detection cameras.

“Most importantly, it is about making sure that we enforce the existing laws and regulations, and make sure we strengthen them to curb accidents on our roads,” she stated.
