North Tongu District has taken center stage in Ghana’s investment drive as it hosts the 7th Volta Trade and Investment Fair, an event aimed at showcasing the Volta Region’s economic potential and strengthening its role in the country’s industrial transformation.

Addressing participants, District Chief Executive Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe described the choice of North Tongu as host as “both symbolic and historic,” noting that it reflects the area’s readiness to revive industry, expand agribusiness, and align with Ghana’s vision of building a 24-hour economy.

“North Tongu is a district of immense promise, a strategic gateway, a fertile land of opportunities and a beacon of cultural pride,” she said.

The district is positioning itself as a hub for agriculture and trade, leveraging fertile plains along the Volta River to support large-scale rice, cassava, maize, and vegetable cultivation, as well as modern processing industries. Doe highlighted prospects in trade and logistics, stressing North Tongu’s role as the entry point into the Volta Region from Greater Accra and the Eastern Region, which makes it a strategic location for markets and industrial expansion.

Tourism and culture are also being promoted, with the Volta River viewed as a driver of ecotourism, water transport, and hospitality ventures. The revival of the Volta Star textile factory and other industrial initiatives, she added, present further opportunities for manufacturing and employment creation.

Doe called on investors, development partners, and stakeholders to tap into the district’s agricultural, trade, and cultural assets. “North Tongu is not just a district of today, but a district of tomorrow. A land of boundless opportunities in agriculture, trade, industry, culture, and human development,” she said.

The Volta Trade and Investment Fair has grown into a major platform connecting businesses, investors, and policymakers. This year’s edition, under the theme “Volta Rising: Building Global Partnerships for a Thriving 24-Hour Economy”, seeks to reposition the Volta Region as a rising force in Ghana’s economic diversification.

On behalf of local chiefs and residents, Doe expressed appreciation to the Volta Regional Minister and fair organizers for selecting North Tongu as host. “Together, let us ensure that Volta truly rises and makes its rightful place in Ghana’s industrial development map,” she said.
