Two drivers are in police custody following two separate road accidents that led to the tragic deaths of two pupils, aged 5 and 7, in Kansawrodo and Kwesimintsim in the Western Region.
According to preliminary information shared with Empire News by Superintendent Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Public Relations Officer of the Western Regional Police Command, the first incident occurred on the morning of Monday, June 2, 2024, at around 7:00 a.m. in Kansawrodo, a suburb of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
A school bus transporting pupils reportedly hit a pothole, which caused its passenger door to swing open. A five-year-old boy fell from the moving vehicle and sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to the Holy Child Hospital at Fijai but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Later that same day, another tragedy struck in Kwesimintsim. A seven-year-old pupil of Freeman Methodist Basic School was attempting to cross the main highway after school when he was run over by the middle tyres of a moving truck. He died instantly.
Superintendent Adiku stated that investigations are currently underway in both cases to determine the full circumstances leading to the incidents.
