Every so often Toyota drops a hint that lights up the car world, and this week feels like one of those moments. A series of teasers on Toyota’s Japanese X account shows a billboard at Fuji Speedway with the Toyota 2000GT on one side, the Lexus LFA on the other, and a shadowy new coupe wearing a GR badge sharing the stage. That is not subtle, and it has our attention.

Toyota is building toward a livestream reveal on October 13 at Fuji, a venue that has shaped the identity of Lexus F and Toyota’s factory racing programs for years. The timing lines up neatly with the 2025 Japan Mobility Show that opens October 30, where the covers should come off again in front of a big home crowd. Between the location and the company’s daily breadcrumbs on a dedicated teaser site, all signs point to something significant for enthusiasts.

What exactly are we looking at. The smart money says this moment connects two threads we have been watching. First is the road car many expect to wear Lexus LFR badges, previewed by the Lexus Sports Concept and heard in prototype form thanks to a thunderous V8 soundtrack during a camouflaged run at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Second is the Toyota GR GT3 racer that has been inching toward a competition debut, with paddock chatter suggesting a 2026 Rolex 24 entry. The racer is slated to arrive before the road car, and a Fuji reveal would be an on brand way to kick the doors open for both.

The clues go beyond the billboard. Toyota has been sprinkling nods to its broader portfolio, including the Century and GR sub brand, which hints at a multi part program announcement. Prototypes seen testing have worn yellow high voltage stickers that point toward a hybrid system, likely paired with a front mounted V8. That recipe would honor the drama of LFA and the elegance of 2000GT while giving the new car the kind of instant shove and fine control modern electronics can deliver. Expect active chassis tech and a short wheelbase that leans into agility rather than pure grand touring heft.

We are especially encouraged by the way Toyota is framing this reveal. Placing a new GR sports car between two halo machines is a bold statement. It suggests intent to build something that stands on the same shelf as 2000GT and LFA, not just a derivative of existing hardware with a louder exhaust. If the road car and the GT3 share core architecture, development should benefit both ways, with lessons from the track feeding the street and vice versa.

There is still plenty to learn, including final design, interior direction, and the powertrain’s exact configuration. The fact that Lexus and Toyota are both in the conversation makes this even more interesting, since we could see a twin track strategy where the race car wears GR badges and the showroom version carries the Lexus crest. Either way, the family resemblance to that Goodwood prototype and the clear emphasis on heritage tell us Toyota wants this car to feel special from the first glance to the last lap of a track day.

As enthusiasts, we are excited to see Toyota back in the spotlight with a sports car that could become an instant touchstone. The 2000GT defined an era, the LFA rewrote expectations for feel and sound, and this new GR machine looks set to carry that torch with modern performance and race ready credibility. We will be watching the Fuji livestream and the Japan Mobility Show closely. If the teasers are any indication, Toyota is about to remind everyone how thrilling a Japanese flagship can be.
