The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced the conviction of three Nigerian nationals for their involvement in vehicle theft activities within the Kumasi Metropolis.

Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze were arrested on 20 June 2025 and later arraigned before various circuit courts in Kumasi.

Ekenze pleaded guilty on his first appearance at the Atasemanso Circuit Court and was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

Friday and Agwazie, who initially pleaded not guilty, were subsequently found guilty at Circuit Court 3 and each handed an 8-year sentence on two counts, to run concurrently.

Further proceedings at Circuit Court 1 saw all three receive additional 20-year concurrent sentences on two counts, while Ekenze was again convicted at Circuit Court 2 and given an extra 10-year concurrent term.

The convicts are currently serving their sentences at Kumasi Central Prison.

Police say the successful prosecution highlights their commitment to tackling organised and transnational crime.

They also called on the public to support crime prevention efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activities.
