Singapore President expresses confidence in Ghana

President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, has declared his “confidence” in the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, describing his administration as being off to a “strong start” despite the challenges it inherited.

“I know you inherited very difficult challenges, but you are off to a very strong start. I have confidence in your government,” President Tharman said during President Mahama’s state visit to Singapore.

The two leaders used the visit to reaffirm the historical and ancestral ties between Ghana and Singapore, while committing to deepen political and economic relations as Ghana turns to Asia for trade and investment opportunities. President Mahama also inspected a guard of honour mounted in his honour as part of the official welcome ceremony.

During the visit, two bilateral agreements were signed. Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, signed on behalf of the Ministry, while Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Simon Madjie, signed another. Both agreements were witnessed by President Mahama and President Tharman.

The GIPC signed an MoU between Singapore Cooperation Enterprise while the Foreign Ministry signed an MoU on Bilateral Consultations.”

The agreements are expected to boost cooperation in investment, trade, and diplomacy between Ghana and Singapore, setting the stage for a stronger partnership in the years ahead.
