Sam George urges restraint after deaths of Omane Boamah, Murtala Mohammed, 6 others in helicopter crash

Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has appealed to Ghanaians to show restraint and empathy in the wake of the military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people, including two ministers of state.

In a post on social media, Mr George pleaded with the public to respect the families of the deceased by refraining from circulating graphic images and videos of the crash scene.

“I plead with you to show some restraint and decorum in these trying moments,” he wrote.

“Let us have respect for the families of the departed and stop spreading those unwholesome videos. I beg you all to show some empathy and humanity. These are very difficult moments for us all.”

His call comes amid widespread mourning across the country following the deaths of Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, among others, in the Adansi Akrofuom District on Wednesday, August 6.

Social media has been flooded with tributes, but also disturbing visuals from the crash site, prompting the minister’s appeal for sensitivity.
