Rosebank International University College (RIUC) has officially opened its Accra Campus to drive technological innovation, research and skills development with a vibrant and well-attended launch ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the country’s higher education landscape.
The colourful launch event celebrated the establishment of the South African-born institution with campuses across other African countries, which is poised to provide world-class undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within an innovative space to students in Ghana.
It also underscored the RIUC’s commitment to academic excellence, research and the development of future leaders.
Vice President of RIUC, Dr. George Kwabena Asamoah, emphasised that the mission is to create a nurturing and dynamic learning environment that fosters critical thinking, creativity and innovation with more practical opportunities for students to achieve their goals, adding that RIUC is committed to becoming a centre of academic excellence that contributes meaningfully to national development, as a skilled human resource is the most valuable asset of any country. “Rosebank will become the hub for leadership training, skills development and production of world-class students with the right mindset to contribute to national development,” he said.
In his keynote address, the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, commended the founders for their vision and investment in Ghana’s future. “The establishment of Rosebank International University College is a testament to the growing strength and diversity of our nation’s educational offerings. This institution will play a vital role in equipping our youth with the 21st-century skills and knowledge required to thrive in a competitive global economy,” he stated.
He further underscored the role of the private sector in the provision of higher education to complement the efforts of the government. “Public universities alone could not shoulder the burden of providing avenues for higher education for the country’s teeming youth. So, this is welcoming news to the government, and I want to assure the management that the government of President John Dramani Mahama will provide them with the needed support to thrive and train the youth for the nation,” he stressed.
Director of Accreditation, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Saaka Sayuti, assured the public that RIUC has gone through the rigorous accreditation process and is properly certified to execute the various programmes opened to the public. “Private institutions like RIUC provide the opportunity for students who seek flexibility, innovation and world-class learning in a serene environment with exchange course opportunities in other countries. Its presence is vital for the government’s goal to produce a highly skilled workforce to develop the nation,” he added.
President of Rosebank University College, Dr. Linda Meyer, remarked that the institute has every confidence in Pan-Africanism and is committed to producing home-grown solutions on the continent to lead economic transformation in all sectors. “We have accreditation from the British Accreditation Council (UK), South African Qualifications Authority (RSA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), among others; and this places Rosebank in a position to produce globally competitive graduates here on the continent.
“Our goal is to provide education to the continent’s population without them having to travel abroad. But again, we offer students access to global connectivity with our sister institutions with the ADvTECH Group,” she said.
Affordability and flexibility
Dr. Meyer highlighted that the institute is aware of the general economic hardship around the continent; as such, the school has made its fee payments flexible for students to pay monthly or by tailored instalment plans over the period of study.
Again, compared to the cost of tuition and access fees students pay when travelling abroad to access such standard facilities, RIUC has put in place different programmes and fee structures with some as minimum as US$2,000. “Our focus is on exceptional student experiences and inclusive technology, and we are committed to delivering high-quality, internationally recognised higher education at the most competitive cost possible.”
RIUC is a brand of ADvTECH, Africa’s leading and most accredited private higher education provider with over 113 colleges and schools in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is also a member of the Association of African Universities (AAA), whose affiliation strengthens RIUC’s role in advancing higher education across the continent.
Rosebank, situated in Accra’s Airport Residential Area – Opeibea House, currently has three faculties – Commerce; Information, Communication Technology (ICT); and Hospitality, Culinary & Service, with 15 accredited programmes.
Other dignitaries present at the official launch included Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mohammed Adam Sukparu; Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North Constituency and member of the Education Committee of Parliament, Eric Edem Agbana; MP for Okaikwei South, Ernest Adomako; former Deputy Education Minister and MP for Assin South, John Ntim Fordjour; and MP for Sunyani West, Millicent Yeboah Amankwah.
These statesmen, in solidarity messages, congratulated RIUC for its establishment in the country, commending the work done to acquire all the necessary accreditation and putting in place such a serene learning environment.
However, they also took the opportunity to appeal for some scholarship offerings for the brilliant but needy in society, especially those in remote communities.
