Rosebank International University College mourns leaders in tragic helicopter crash

The academic community of Rosebank International University College has joined the nation in mourning the tragic loss of eight individuals in a devastating helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

In a message of condolence issued by the institution, leadership expressed profound sorrow over the deaths of several national leaders, including two cabinet ministers, and extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families and the government of Ghana.

The victims of the crash, which included Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, were burnt beyond recognition.

They were accompanied by Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC.

Tragically, the military crew members, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, also lost their lives in the crash.

The message from the tertiary institution, signed by the university’s President, Dr. Linda Meyer; and Vice-President, Dr. George Asamoah; highlighted the impact of the tragedy.

“This devastating incident has left a deep sense of sorrow within our academic community,” the statement read.

“As an institution dedicated to developing ethical, future-ready African leaders, we recognise and honour the extraordinary contributions of both ministers.”

The university specifically praised the ministers’ legacies, noting that their “commitment to safeguarding our nation, advancing environmental stewardship, and driving scientific innovation will continue to inspire generations to come.”

This tribute acknowledges the dual loss of seasoned politicians and role models for young Ghanaians.

The helicopter crash, which occurred at Adansi Sikaman in the Ashanti Region, has prompted a period of national mourning and a widespread outpouring of grief from across the country’s political, social, and academic spheres.

The university’s message paid tribute to the victims and encouraged its community to reflect on the values of courage, service, and unity that they exemplified.

The statement concluded with a powerful message of solidarity, praying for the souls of the departed to rest in peace and urging the people of Ghana to remain “steadfast and united in this time of grief.”
