Torrential downpours over the weekend in the Central Region led to the deaths of two people, injured three, and displaced several others. Some property worth thousands of Ghana cedis was also destroyed.
Our reporters visited some affected communities in the region and saw homes flooded, with coastal people’s belongings submerged and light items washed away into the oceans.
The Central Regional National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Coordinator, Kwesi Dawood, disclosed that places like Ataabaadze junction, Tettermu, Bronyibima, and Pershie in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality were affected by the floods.
He also confirmed that the Saturday disaster affected Abura, Apeosika, Ntsen, and London Bridge, all in the Cape Coast Metropolis.
He urged residents to pay attention to the regular updates from the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) and take precautionary measures to save lives in the future, as more rains are expected this year.
He advised residents to practice environmental cleanliness to avoid flooding- clearing gutters regularly, avoiding building houses on waterways, and disposing of garbage properly.

Mr. Kwesi Dawood announced that various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) had begun instituting measures to combat flooding in the Central Region.
The Central Regional NADMO coordinator commended the mayor of Cape Coast, George Justice Arthur, the security agencies, citizens, and NADMO staff rescuing trapped people in collapsed buildings and supporting the injured.
At the London Bridge, a suburb of Cape Coast, a dilapidated storey building collapsed.
The Cape Coast Mayor, George Justice Arthur, expressed his gratitude to the rescue team for saving three lives.
The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly has vowed to pull down dilapidated buildings to prevent any such dangers during the rainy season. He also appealed for more support from all well-meaning Ghanaians and non-governmental organisations to combat flooding.
The Mayor disclosed that his office was still assessing the extent of the devastation.
Representatives of the Ghana Fire Service encouraged the citizenry to seek professional advice and also engage the services of certified architects when planning to build commercial and residential structures.
