Polestar has pulled the cover off its new flagship, and it is very much the production realization of the striking Precept concept. The 2025 Polestar 5 is a four door Grand Tourer with clean Scandinavian lines, a bespoke bonded aluminum platform, in house powertrains, and an 800 volt electrical system aimed at fast charging and high performance. It is on sale now in initial markets, starting from EUR 119,900 for the Dual motor and EUR 142,900 for the Performance model.

Design that keeps the promise

The body is long and low with taut surfaces and minimal ornament. A low nose integrates Polestar’s SmartZone, flanked by dual blade Pixel LED headlights. The wing like profile finishes in a tidy Kamm style tail and a full width aero light bar. Flush glass, retractable handles, and careful underbody work contribute to a claimed 0.24 drag coefficient on the Dual motor. Six color choices are available, including Storm and Magnesium matte finishes, both tailored to the crisp surfacing.

A glasshouse designed for people

Polestar 5 uses a digital rear view mirror and a virtual rear window, which allows the rear header to sit farther back to free up headroom. The panoramic roof is the largest fitted to a Polestar so far, a little over two meters long and 1.25 meters wide, which helps the second row feel bright and open. The cabin is configured as a 4+1 layout, with deeply bolstered Recaro front seats set low for a performance driving position and rear seats that can recline individually. Raise the center armrest and you unlock a fifth seat for short hops.

Sustainable materials meet premium touch points

The interior blends technical minimalism with warmer textures. Standard Charcoal MicroTech is joined by optional Bridge of Weir Nappa leather in Charcoal or Zinc, sourced as a by product of the food industry and finished chrome free with available ventilation and massage. Natural fiber composites appear throughout, including a bio based flax weave developed with BComp and ampliTex that is up to 40 percent lighter than comparable plastics and uses significantly less fossil content. Floor carpets can be made from Econyl, the headliner uses recycled PET, and door uppers feature an intricate knitted deco.

Screens and sound, thoughtfully arranged

A 9 inch driver display is mounted directly to the power adjustable steering column so it stays in your line of sight as you fine tune your driving position. A 9.5 inch head up display adds key info without clutter. The 14.5 inch portrait center screen runs Android Automotive OS with Google built in, featuring customizable tiles and a shortcut strip for your most used functions. Audio starts with a 10 speaker Polestar system or steps up to a Bowers & Wilkins 21 speaker setup with Tweeter on Top and 1,680 watts. Active Road Noise Cancellation and laser line ambient lighting raise the sense of calm at highway speeds.

Safety and driver assistance that scale with the mission

The SmartZone panel houses sensors, a forward camera, and radar, supporting a full ADAS suite that includes Pilot Assist for lane centering and speed adjustment up to 150 km/h. In total the car employs 11 vision cameras, a driver monitoring camera, mid range radar, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Interior radar helps tailor airbag deployment to occupant position and type.

A platform built for precision

Under the skin sits the Polestar Performance Architecture, a hot cured bonded aluminum structure of extrusions, pressings, and castings. It targets torsional rigidity beyond that of some two seat sports cars while keeping mass in check. Recycled content is part of the story as well, with 13 percent recycled aluminum and 83 percent of the remaining aluminum sourced from smelters using renewable electricity. The 112 kWh lithium ion NMC battery from SK On, with 106 kWh usable, forms part of the structure for stiffness and packaging efficiency.

Hardware that feels engineered by drivers

Up front, a compact double wishbone suspension pairs with Brembo four piston calipers and lightweight 400 mm two piece discs that trim unsprung mass by 12 kg compared to the related SUV setup. The Dual motor rides on BWI passive dampers with hydraulic rebound stops, while the Performance model uses BWI MagneRide adaptive dampers that read the road up to 1,000 times per second and react within milliseconds. Michelin develops bespoke tires for 20 to 22 inch wheels to match this chassis.

Powertrains and charging to match the brief

Both versions use all wheel drive with a strong rear bias from an in house developed rear motor. The Dual motor is rated at 550 kW and 812 Nm and the Performance model pushes to 650 kW and 1,015 Nm. Polestar quotes 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds for the Dual motor and 3.1 seconds for the Performance. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. An 800 volt architecture supports DC fast charging up to 350 kW, with a 10 to 80 percent session possible in as little as 22 minutes on a suitable charger. For efficiency the rear motor can decouple at cruise, and WLTP range is listed at up to 416 miles for the Dual motor and up to 351 miles for the Performance.

Polestar 5 reads like a focused Grand Tourer for drivers who want long leg comfort without giving up road feel. The platform is bespoke, the motors are developed in house, and the materials story leans into lower impact choices without sacrificing the premium touch. If the charging and range performance translates cleanly outside the lab, this flagship lands squarely in the mix with the quickest luxury EV sedans while carving out its own identity with design purity and a mature ride and handling balance.
