Parliament returns from Easter recess today

Parliament has resumed sittings today, Tuesday, 27 May 2025, marking the commencement of the Second Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament.

The resumption follows a recess observed during the Easter period, bringing Members of Parliament back to full legislative duties.

With the return to business, lawmakers are expected to engage in legislative debates, committee work, and discussions on urgent national matters.

One of the key highlights anticipated during this session is the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review by the Minister for Finance, scheduled for August.

Speaking to Citi FM ahead of the sitting, the Second Deputy Majority Whip, Richard Acheampong, outlined the session’s agenda.

“The ministers will make their statements so we can assess their achievements over the past three months and understand their plans going forward. We have a packed agenda this sitting, including the mid-year budget review in August,” Mr Acheampong noted.

Ahead of the resumption, the Minority Caucus held a strategic retreat over the weekend to evaluate its performance during the previous session and define key priorities for the new meeting. The retreat was also aimed at refining the caucus’s oversight strategy.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin reaffirmed the opposition’s readiness to play an active and constructive role.

“We are sending a strong message to our opponents—we will hold their feet to the fire while remaining a responsible opposition. I assure Ghanaians that we are ready to take power in 2028,” he declared.
