Ghana is going digital in a big way. More than 16,000 government services will soon be accessible online through an upgraded Ghana.Gov platform, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced.

Speaking at a media briefing in Accra, the Minister revealed that the revamped Ghana.Gov platform is being developed through a collaborative effort between the Ministry and the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), with the aim of transforming how Ghanaians interact with government services.

“The Ghana.Gov platform is undergoing comprehensive re-engineering led by the Ministry and NITA to modernize citizen interaction with government,” Mr. George disclosed.

“The redesigned site, which will launch after the public tender process, will feature significantly faster access, full Ghana Card integration, and an intuitive, streamlined interface tailored for both individuals and businesses.”

A One-Stop Digital Gateway for Public Services

Government to Make Over 16,000 Services Accessible via Upgraded Ghana.Gov Platform

The Minister emphasized that the upgraded platform will remove the need for citizens to physically visit government offices for basic services, offering convenience, transparency, and efficiency instead.

“We intend to put 16,000 government services on that platform,” he declared, highlighting a bold vision for digital governance and seamless access to state services. These will range from passport and driver’s license applications to tax payments, birth registration, utility management, business licensing, and more.

By anchoring services to the Ghana Card, the platform is also expected to improve identity verification, reduce fraud, and personalize service delivery.

Balancing Innovation with Rights Protection

In addition to the digital infrastructure upgrades, the Minister also addressed the growing concern around misinformation online. He announced that the National Misinformation and Disinformation Bill is nearing completion and will be laid before Parliament in the upcoming session.

“The Bill is being carefully crafted to balance the fight against harmful disinformation with the preservation of free expression,” Mr. George assured, noting that the legislation is intended to promote responsible digital citizenship without infringing on constitutional rights.

A New Era of Digital Governance

Together, these initiatives represent the government’s commitment to building a digitally inclusive state where access to services is swift, transparent, and equitable—while also safeguarding the democratic space.

“Our vision is a Ghana where public service delivery is frictionless, citizen-driven, and future-proof. We are laying the digital rails for a smarter, more efficient state.” Mr. George stated.

The upgraded Ghana.Gov platform is expected to be unveiled in phases, following the completion of procurement processes and system integration. When fully deployed, it will position Ghana among Africa’s leading digital governance pioneers.
