The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a firm response to remarks made by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Dr. Ransford Gyampo, who suggested that the investigation into former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta is rooted in a personal vendetta.
In a public notice released on Saturday, the OSP stated clearly that its actions are based on documented allegations of corruption and related offences. These include suspected abuse of office for personal gain, with particular attention to the controversial multi-year contract awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).
The OSP also revealed that the Shippers Authority CEO contacted the Office during a legal search of SML’s premises. Both OSP officers and National Security personnel were on site when the calls and messages were received, a move the OSP appears to view as a possible attempt to interfere with ongoing proceedings.
While the Special Prosecutor’s office acknowledged that public criticism is welcome, it cautioned government officials against interfering with active investigations. It stressed that public commentary or behind-the-scenes engagement risks undermining efforts to fight corruption and could compromise the integrity of the process.
In plain terms, the OSP is sending a message stay out of the way. The law must take its course, regardless of whose name is involved or how high the stakes may be. Ghana’s anti-corruption drive is at a critical point, and according to the OSP, distractions from within the system won’t be tolerated.
