OpenAI Upgrades Chat GPT4 to GPT 5: CEO says New Version Thinks Like a PhD Expert

Artificial intelligence is getting better as OpenAI has released GPT-5, its most advanced and human-like AI model to date.

CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, describes the upgrade as a significant step towards improving AI to match human thinking.

GPT-5, according to OpenAI, brings together speed, precision, and intellectual depth in a way that pushes the boundary of what everyday users and businesses can expect from AI.

It can leverage a real-time “router” system, and also can instantly decide whether a prompt requires a quick answer or a deep-reasoned, and multi-step thought process to deliver results faster without sacrificing accuracy.

OpenAI claims GPT-5 makes up to 80% fewer factual errors than earlier o-series models and 45% fewer hallucinations than GPT-4o, tackling one of AI’s most persistent trust issues.

The model is also noticeably more candid, avoiding over-flattering language and unnecessary flourishes, instead focusing on clarity and correctness.

Moreover, GPT-5 set new benchmarks in coding and complex reasoning, scoring 74.9% on SWE-bench Verified and over 96% in advanced tool-calling tests, capabilities that make it a formidable engine for both developers and enterprises.

With a 400,000-token context window, it can handle vast documents, intricate datasets, or lengthy conversations without losing track of details.

“GPT-4 felt like you’re kind of talking to a college student. GPT-5 is the first time that it really feels like talking to an expert in any topic, like a PhD-level expert,” the CEO said at the launch of the new version.
