NPP expands voter register ahead of Presidential Primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially expanded its Presidential Primary voter register, incorporating a wider array of party officials and dignitaries. This move is in accordance with Article 13(1)(11) of the Party’s Constitution.

The decision, according to the party, follows a motion on transitional provisions adopted during the National Annual Delegates Conference held in Accra on Saturday, 19th July 2025.

In a statement signed by Presidential Elections Committee Secretary William Yemoah on 26th August, the NPP confirmed the inclusion of 19 new categories of members who will now be eligible to vote in the Party’s forthcoming Presidential Primaries.

The move, the party says, is part of its commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and transparency.

Newly Eligible Categories Include:

  1. All former Regional Executives
  2. All former Constituency Executives
  3. All Members of the National Council of Elders
  4. Thirty (30) Members of the National Council of Patrons
  5. All former party card-bearing Members of Parliament
  6. All former party card-bearing Parliamentary Candidates
  7. All past National Officers
  8. All External Branch Executives
  9. All former External Branch Executives
  10. TESCON President from each recognised tertiary institution
  11. National TESCON Coordinator
  12. All Regional TESCON Coordinators
  13. One TESCON Patron from each recognised institution
  14. All former party card-bearing Ministers and Deputy Ministers
  15. All former party card-bearing Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs)
  16. Ten Members from each Regional Council of Elders
  17. Ten Patrons from each Region
  18. Five Members of each Constituency Council of Elders
  19. Five Patrons from each Constituency

All individuals falling within these categories, the statement noted, are required to register their names with their respective party structures, including the National Secretariat, Regional and Constituency offices, and External Branches, as appropriate.

To improve accessibility and streamline the process, an online registration portal will be made available specifically for External Branch Executives.

Additionally, the registration form can be downloaded from the NPP’s official website, and a sample copy has been circulated for reference.

Registration Deadline: Friday, 19th September 2025

The party has emphasised that the registration exercise is strictly limited to the categories listed, and only those who meet the eligibility requirements will be included in the final register.

The Presidential Elections Committee will subsequently carry out a comprehensive verification and validation of the voter album to ensure the integrity and credibility of the register that will be used for the presidential primary.

Party members have been urged to comply fully with the directive. “We count on your usual cooperation and adherence to this directive in furtherance of the Party’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and transparency,” the statement concluded.

The NPP is expected to hold its presidential primaries on Saturday, 31st January 2026, to elect a flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.
