The National Information Technology Agency (NITA) has officially launched Ghana’s National Computer Emergency Response Team (GovCert) during the 2025 National ICT Week in Accra. The event, held under the theme “Ghana as Africa’s Digital Trade Hub: Innovation, Policy, and Partnerships for the Future,” marked a milestone in strengthening the country’s cybersecurity resilience.
As Ghana pushes to become Africa’s leading digital trade hub, NITA emphasized that cybersecurity is central to this ambition. GovCert will serve as the official national point for detecting, analyzing, and responding to cyber threats that target government institutions, businesses, and citizens.
According to NITA, GovCert’s core functions include:
- Coordinating incident response across government and private sectors.
- Issuing advisories and threat intelligence to prevent attacks.
- Providing digital forensics and crisis simulation support for institutions.
- Raising awareness and building capacity to improve national cyber hygiene.

NITA stressed that GovCert will operate in collaboration with ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), critical information infrastructure (CII) providers, Internet service providers, private organizations, and international partners. This collective approach will ensure that Ghana’s digital ecosystem is prepared, responsive, and resilient in the face of cyber risks.
The launch also reflects government’s push for stronger policy frameworks that reinforce Ghana’s cybersecurity landscape. By supporting GovCert, policymakers aim to promote trust, protect investments, and enable the safe growth of digital trade platforms and services.
Industry experts at the ICT Week noted that the launch of GovCert positions Ghana as a serious contender for Africa’s digital trade hub status. Beyond infrastructure and innovation, the country is demonstrating commitment to security and trust, which are essential foundations for regional and global partnerships in the digital economy.
