Greater Accra NDC Chairman Emmanuel Nii Ashie-Moore has been sued for GH¢20 million at Accra’s Human Rights High Court by Singaporean businessman Toh You Kang.
The lawsuit alleges fraud and human rights violations tied to a failed $2 million investment scheme involving phantom ECG contracts.
According to a 66-paragraph affidavit, Ashie-Moore allegedly secured $800,000 from Kang in 2024 under pretenses of securing Electricity Company of Ghana tenders through a jointly formed company, NSG Innovation Limited. When communications ceased, Kang claims Ashie-Moore later demanded an additional $1.5 million—purportedly for NDC campaign support—referencing former President John Mahama in WhatsApp messages submitted as evidence.
The plaintiff further alleges he was lured to Ghana in May 2025, detained by armed associates of Ashie-Moore, stripped of assets, and arrested. While imprisoned, ransom demands for $3 million were allegedly sent to his family. Singapore’s embassy intervened to facilitate his release and legal action.
Ashie-Moore, who holds significant influence in Ghana’s ruling party, has not publicly addressed the allegations. Kang seeks recovery of the $800,000 plus GH¢20 million compensation for unlawful detention and reputational damage. The case tests accountability mechanisms for politically connected figures under Ghana’s constitutional human rights protections.
