The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations across Ghana for breaching broadcasting regulations. The decision, announced on August 12, 2025, follows the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to regularise their operations.
According to the NCA, six stations Donplus Multimedia Limited (Ho), Dreams Ghana Media Limited (New Abirem), Jam Multimedia Limited (Kintampo), Jewel Group Limited (Duayaw Nkwanta), Kpandai Star Community Radio (Kpandai), and Unique Gateway Communication Limited (Nkawkaw) “failed, refused and neglected” to comply with the regulatory amnesty.
Three other stations, all operated by Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited in Accra (95.9 FM), Kumasi (101.3 FM), and Takoradi (101.3 FM), were cited for additional breaches, including unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link frequencies and operating from unapproved transmitter locations.
The NCA said these outlets were found to be operating without a valid Certificate of Compliance, contravening Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991).

The regulator stressed that it “will continue to monitor the broadcasting space to ensure compliance with the relevant authorisation conditions and the laws and regulations governing the operation of broadcasting services in Ghana.”
Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, publicly backed the move, saying “We shall continue to take decisive action in the interest of our country and responsible journalism that respects the terms of the frequency authorization.” on X (formerly Twitter).
