National Prayer Day: Change of behavior should complement prayers – Principal of Jackson College of Education

Principal of Jackson College of Education, Theodosia W. Jackson, has cautioned that the country’s future will remain bleak if Ghanaians do not complement prayers with behavioral change.

She expressed distress over persistent social mishandling and destruction of resources, including illegal mining, urging citizens to commit to transforming their character.

Mrs Jackson, however commended the government’s decision to entrust the nation’s leadership to divine guidance, stressing that commitment to change is essential for prosperity.

Staff, students and institutional members join in the praise and worship service at the Jackson College of Education in Kumasi in commemoration of the maiden observation of National Prayer Day.

The event creates a synergy with all persons of religious faith in unity to worship, and deliberate national peace and development.

Speaking at the institution’s participatory service, Principal of Jackson College of Education, Mrs. Theodosia W. Jackson, urged Ghanaians to commit to an exemplary life that balances the purpose of prayer day.

“Prayers would be in vain if they’re not complemented with a change of behavior. When members of this country don’t change our character and behavior, Ghana will not change. And will not have a brighter hope and future.

“Rampant illegal mining, destroying lands and resources, even if we pray every day, nothing will change. When it rains people are dumping in the gutter. This is an issue of attitude and only the people can change that, not prayers,” she said.

Designating July 1 as Ghana’s permanent National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving aligns with the country’s Republic Day, creating a powerful dual celebration that ensures its lasting prominence in the national calendar.

The successful annual commemoration of the day could foster an enduring tradition, strengthening the nation’s moral and spiritual core.

Mrs. Jackson, commending the government for the efforts, is advocating for the quarterly or monthly observation of the day.

“I propose that this is observed quarterly or monthly for easy absorption and fast assimilation for better change in the date of the country and people. It’s good that the president has handed over the running of the country in the hands of the lord. If the awareness is drawn and sincere commitments are made to the country, we can prosper,” she said.
