The Leadership Empowerment Club (LEC), in partnership with MTN Ghana, has successfully held the Grand Finale of the 2025 National Youth Mentorship Summit and Awards at the University of Ghana, Accra.

The summit, themed “Youthpreneur: A Catalyst for a New Economy,” aimed at providing young people with practical skills, mentorship, and inspiration to become entrepreneurial change-makers.

As a flagship initiative of LEC, it remains a crucial platform for leadership development, entrepreneurial training, and career guidance for youth in Ghana and across the continent.

This year’s edition featured an impressive lineup of speakers from top institutions including MTN Ghana, GCB Bank PLC, InvestCorp, and Bel Beverages Company Limited. Presentations covered key topics such as financial literacy, purpose-driven leadership, entrepreneurship, and personal growth.

Kusi Urges Youth to Become Job Creators
In his address, Albert Prempeh Kusi, CEO of the LEC Group, highlighted the growing challenge of youth unemployment in Ghana.

“We are in a country where young people complete university and don’t get jobs. Those in senior high schools are not even motivated to pursue higher education because of widespread unemployment,” he noted.

He explained that the summit was created to inspire a mindset shift from job seeking to job creation.

Mr. Kusi also emphasized the importance of mentorship and a strong support system, sharing his own 15-year journey with Rev. Albert Ocran as a transformative experience that shaped his leadership path.

MTN Ghana Highlights Digital Skills for the Future

The Education Portfolio Advisor at MTN Ghana, Ebenezer Terkpeh, stressed the need for digital and career-readiness skills to stay competitive in the evolving job market.

He noted MTN’s transformation from a telecom provider into a technology-driven company and the growing need for specialized local talent.

“MTN is no longer just a call and SMS company we are now a technology-driven organization,” he said. “To stay competitive and avoid outsourcing key roles to expatriates, we must build local talent capable of driving innovation.”

Through the MTN Skills Academy, MTN offers free, globally recognized courses in cybersecurity, data analytics, programming, and more. Developed in partnership with Coursera, the platform enables learners to earn certificates from institutions such as the University of Chicago and the University of the Witwatersrand.

Mr. Terkpeh also introduced the Career Guidance Platform, which helps students discover career paths aligned with their interests while equipping them with essential soft skills such as communication, branding, and workplace readiness.

MTN continues to support participants after course completion by connecting them to job fairs, internships, and employment opportunities through its partner network.
