Cyber Fraud Surges To GH₵4.4million In First Quarter Of 2025

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has raised concerns over a sharp increase in cyber fraud in Ghana, reporting financial losses of GH₵4.4 million between January and March 2025, an 83% surge compared to GH₵2.4 million recorded during the same period in 2024. This piece outlines the three common tactics used by scammers and Cyber fraud report channels.

We Don’t Steal Your Data – MTN

CEO of MTN has addressed the popular frustration of data vanishing too quickly, a phenomenon users perceive as theft from Telcos. He clarified that faster data depletion is often due to improved network quality, which prompts apps like YouTube to stream in higher resolution automatically and how that MTN does not steal the internet bundle you buy because it wouldn’t be able to account for it.

Flutterwave Launches Send App In Ghana

Flutterwave, one of Africa’s leading payments technology company, has announced the official launch of its Send App in Ghana, the App would enable users receive money from abroad directly into their bank accounts or mobile money wallets (MTN Mobile Money, Telecel Cash, and AirtelTigo Money).

Ghana and Kenya Share Digital Payment Expertise in Strategic Exchange

The Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Ltd (GhIPSS) hosted a team from the Central Bank of Kenya. The delegation explored Ghana's innovative systems such as Near Real-Time Payments, Mobile Money Interoperability, GhQR, and the GhanaPay mobile money service which have significantly enhanced financial transactions. The exchange aimed to provide insights into Ghana's payment system operations and the factors driving its success, offering valuable lessons for Kenya to enhance its own digital payment infrastructure.

Gbhub Africa Bets On Greenheart SE To Decarbonize Agriculture Production.

GB Foods’ social impact arm, GBHub Africa, has invested $50,000 in GreenHeart SE, a Ghanaian agritech company that transforms organic biomass waste into carbon-negative agricultural inputs. The investment, structured as a local currency loan with a 5% interest rate in Ghanaian cedis, includes a six-month moratorium and a 60-month repayment period.

This funding will enable GreenHeart SE to expand its biomass recycling capacity from 300 to 1,000 tonnes, helping the company avoid 1,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions while advancing sustainable agricultural practices.

KNUST Researchers Develop AI Technique To Improve Image Recognition Accuracy

KNUST researchers, supported by GIZ through KNUST's Responsible AI Lab have developed WaveNet, an improved image recognition model. WaveNet uses wavelet packet transform (WPT) and a WAECA module to preserve key image details and guide AI focus. Tests show it boosts performance on models like ResNet-50, achieving higher accuracy with less computing power. This innovation could enhance image recognition in fields like healthcare, surveillance, and autonomous vehicles without requiring expensive hardware upgrades.

TP Expands Operations In Ghana

Global leader in digital business services, TP, in collaboration with the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation has launched its third office in Accra and planning to hire over 5,000 young Ghanaians across the country. This expansion aligns with TP’s long-term vision to position Ghana as a strategic hub for digital services in West Africa

Education Minister Champions Science Set As Key To Ghana’s STEM Revolution

Ghana’s Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has endorsed the Science Set, a locally made, desk-sized science lab developed by Dext Technology to revolutionize science education. Aimed at bridging the resource gap in schools—especially in rural areas—the kit enables hands-on STEM learning and aligns with Ghana’s Standards-Based Curriculum. Currently used in 400+ schools in Ghana and 500 in the UK, it’s both cost-effective and impactful.

With support from GETFund and other sources, the Ministry plans to send out science sets to schools by next academic year, with primary 4- 6 being the initial beneficiaries.
