A grand durbar in honour of King Mswati III of Eswatini is currently underway at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, as part of his official visit to Ghana.
The durbar, which is drawing a large crowd of traditional rulers, politicians, and members of the public, is the highlight of the monarch’s itinerary in the Ashanti Region.
Traditional leaders from across Asanteman have been arriving at the palace in their regalia to pay homage to both the visiting king and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
According to the official itinerary, King Mswati III and his delegation are in Ghana from June 24 to June 28, 2025.
The visit began with bilateral talks with President John Dramani Mahama in Accra on Tuesday, June 24.
On Wednesday, June 25, the king was formally welcomed at the Manhyia Palace by the Asantehene.
The day’s engagements included a tour of the Manhyia Museum, an address to the National House of Chiefs, and a visit to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
The main event of the royal visit the grand durbar of chiefs and people of Asanteman is being held today, Thursday, June 26.
The Asantehene is expected to sit in state, showcasing the rich culture and traditions of the Ashanti Kingdom in honour of his guest.
On Friday, King Mswati III will tour the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to familiarize himself with the institution’s academic operations.
The day will conclude with a royal banquet at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall at Manhyia Palace.
The visit will end on Saturday, June 28, with the King joining Otumfuo who also serves as Chancellor of KNUSTat the university’s congregation ceremony before departing for Accra.
