IPR Ghana mourns 8 national heroes lost in helicopter crash

The Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians.

In a statement signed by its president, Esther A. N. Cobbah, the IPR described the incident as a devastating blow to the nation, mourning the untimely passing of men it called “dedicated to public service and to safeguarding the peace, development and progress of our nation.”

The crash took the lives of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, President John Dramani Mahama, the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the entire nation,” the statement read.

The IPR commended the commitment, patriotism, and sense of duty of the fallen, adding that their lives and work remain an enduring inspiration.

“We stand in solidarity with all Ghanaians during this period of profound grief. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace and may their legacy continue to light the path of national service,” it concluded.
