Now that the much-touted 24-Hour Economy has officially been launched, the question on the lips of many Ghanaians is simple but very important. Seeing the potential of the programme, many are asking, “How can I also be part of this?”

If that is your question too, worry no more. After a critical scrutiny of the policy, The High Street Journal has answers for you. For starters, there’s room for everyone, from agropreneurs to factory operators, and even ordinary business owners who believe in going the extra mile.

The initiative, as launched by President John Mahama and explained by his economic team, is not just a government project; it’s a call to action for individuals and private businesses to take ownership of Ghana’s next chapter. In President Mahama’s own words, the programme is a “national mobilization” and the government won’t dominate it but rather play a facilitation role for individuals and private sector players to take the center stage.

Here’s a breakdown of the exciting ways you can plug into the 24-Hour Economy and reap the benefits of this game-changing transformation.

Join the 24/7 Ready Business Programme

If you run a business that’s already capable of operating round-the-clock, such as a food outlet, delivery service, factory, health centre, or tech company, then you’re exactly the type of entrepreneur the new “24/7 Ready Business” program is looking for.

Once the official portal goes live, businesses can sign up to be certified as 24/7 Ready. This status will not only offer visibility and credibility but also come with incentives such as tax benefits, utility support, and access to government-backed resources to keep operations seamless even during off-peak hours. This is your chance to be recognized as a pioneer in Ghana’s 24-hour economic future.

Become an Anchor Farmer in an Agroecological Park

Are you a farmer, or want to become one and have the capabilities to manage 10 to 30 hectares of land? Then the government wants you as an Anchor Farmer in one of the new agroecological parks being developed within the Volta Economic Corridor.

These parks will be equipped with irrigation facilities and infrastructure to allow for continuous farming and food processing. As an Anchor Farmer, you’ll lead the charge in managing land, recruiting supporting farmers, and producing high-value crops for both local and export markets.

Set Up an Agro-Processing Business

Maybe you’re more interested in turning raw produce into finished goods. The program is inviting Ghanaians to register their interest in establishing agro-processing facilities. Whether rice, tomatoes, cashews, or any other local crop, you can register to establish these value-adding facilities. And hey, it comes with a number of incentives as well.

Imagine running a modern facility that processes and packages goods all through the night, creating jobs, reducing post-harvest losses, and increasing Ghana’s export potential.

Get Involved in Water Transport and Logistics

Transport is going to be the lifeblood of the 24-Hour Economy, and water transport on the Volta Lake is one of the cheapest and greenest ways to move goods around. The government is encouraging interested individuals and companies to become part of a new generation of inland transporters.

If you’ve got a logistics mindset or a dream of running boats and barges, this is your moment to sail into a new business frontier.

Explore Opportunities in Industrial Parks: Textiles and Pharma

There’s room in the Textile Park and Pharmaceutical Park being rolled out under the initiative as well. Whether you’re a tailor looking to scale, a local investor in clothing or medicine production, or a diaspora Ghanaian with capital and ideas, you can sign up to play a role in Ghana’s reindustrialization effort under the 24-Hour Economy.

Other Opportunities

You can also register your interest in the National Creators’ Academy and train and build your brand in music, content, animation, or digital. There are a number of opportunities in the Tamale Air Cargo Hub for Ghanaians as well.

The Bottomline

At the heart of the 24-Hour Economy is the firm belief that Ghana will only succeed if Ghanaians seize the opportunity.

Whether you’re a business owner in Kumasi, a farmer in Tamale, a mechanic in Cape Coast, or a young graduate in Accra with a dream, the platform is being laid out. All it takes now is your interest, your passion, and your willingness to move when the economy does.

So, if you’ve been wondering how to join this ambitious transformation, now you know: the 24-Hour Economy is not just a policy, it’s your next business breakthrough.
