The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA), over the weekend, warmed up its Insurance Awareness Month celebration with fun games held at the University of Ghana, Legon.

This year’s sporting event, dubbed ‘Insurtainment’, brought together industry professionals for a day of fun, games and education.

The event aimed at promoting the importance of insurance and to make it more accessible to not only the elite, but the general public – including the informal sector which forms about 80 percent of the country’s working population.

Insurance awareness creation

Using the occasion to educate the public, industry leaders emphasised the need for Ghanaians to prioritise insurance, citing its role in providing security and protecting lives. They highlighted the association’s efforts in designing insurance policies that cater for the diverse needs, making insurance more inclusive.

The event encouraged attendees to take insurance seriously, with a focus on risk management and protection. Through initiatives like ‘Insurtainment’, the GIA seeks to educate the public and promote a culture of insurance as a way of life while paying the right premiums for the corresponding risks.

The fun games

With the participation of over 45 life and non-life insurance companies, reinsurers, micro-insurance companies, insurance brokers and agents, the event was a grand celebration that saw most seemingly sedentary CEOs battle it out with their colleagues in various disciplines.

The 2025 Insurance Industry Fun Games brought together talents from across the insurance sector, offering a platform to showcase their skills in exciting and competitive games. The event featured numerous exhilarating disciplines that added to the overall excitement.

Participating companies displayed their athletic prowess and determination, earning recognition through coveted medals and trophies awarded in each category. This year’s line-up featured a wide range of disciplines – football, table tennis, athletics, volleyball and tug-of-war, along other indoor games.

Trophies and medals were presented to winners in the following disciplines:

As part of the month-long celebrations, the insurance industry’s annual fun games are organised to foster social connections, encourage exercise, relieve stress and provide entertainment through sporting activities.

The Insurance Awareness Month Celebration (IAMC) is an annual event observed by all insurers and reinsurers in Ghana with the view to making all and sundry aware of the benefits, do’s and don’t’s of being insurance policyholders.
