Gospel musician Jayana blames church for father’s death

Gospel musician Jemima Annor-Yeboah, known by her stage name Jayana, has blamed the Christ Apostolic Church for the events that led to the death of her father, Apostle Augustine Annor-Yeboah.

According to Jayana, her father’s health began to deteriorate following his forced exit from the church after an election that voted him out of office. Apostle Annor-Yeboah had served as the General Secretary and later the Chairman of the Christ Apostolic Church for many years before the fallout.

Speaking emotionally to MzGee on Just Being Us, which airs on Akwaaba Magic (DStv channel 150 and GOtv channel 102), Jayana said her father felt betrayed and deeply hurt after being removed from the church he had served for decades.

“Though Apostle Annor-Yeboah started his own fellowship named Christian Praise International Centre, he felt unappreciated and unfairly treated by his previous church,” she said.

Recalling the emotional toll on the family, Jayana said, “I would say that I was very bitter. A secretary of a church that had nothing to being a chairman of the church and then all of a sudden it is like you’ve been stripped off everything. He was crying, his eyes were swollen. They took him away from us,” she noted.

Jayana also revealed that the pain of her father’s death impacted her personal life, contributing to the collapse of her marriage just a year after his passing.

Apostle Dr Augustine Annor-Yeboah, a renowned preacher and popular television figure, died on 26 June 2014 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. He was laid to rest on 23 August 2014.

A former contestant of the music reality show Stars of the Future, Jayana is known for her powerful voice and soul-lifting worship songs. Her discography includes notable singles such as Awurade, Victory, Who You Are, and I Believe, which have earned her nominations and accolades within the gospel music space.

She continues to use her platform to share her journey of faith, healing and resilience, often referencing her father’s influence and legacy.
