GOC President Ben Nunoo Mensah 'will not contest' in April's Elective Congress

Ghana Olympic Committee President, Ben Nunoo Mensah, has opted against seeking re-election at next month’s GOC elections.

The 61-year-old business man has already served two terms in office, having first been elected in 2017, and supervised the country’s participation at the Tokyo and Paris Olympic Games.

In a statement released, Nunoo Mensah explained that he has made the decision to move on to other endeavors.

“I wish to confirm that while it would have been an honour to continue serving my nation and
the sports community in this capacity, there is a greater call to serve humanity in a different and equally fulfilling way. I accordingly want to move on and will not contest in the upcoming GOC elections.

“I understand this decision may disappoint the many individuals and federations who have
encouraged me to continue for another and final four-year term.

“I sincerely appreciate their support and confidence in my leadership. However, I trust they will also understand that, there comes a time when one must move on, and for me, that time is now.”

The GOC elections have been fixed for April 26, with former General Secretary of the committee, Richard Akpokavi, having already declared his intention to contest for the presidency.
