GLICO General Insurance donates GHS100,000 to Ghana Air Force in honour of gallant eight

GLICO General Insurance LTD has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to cushioning lives by presenting a cash donation of GHS100,000 to the Ghana Air Force. The gesture honours the memory of the Gallant Eight officers who tragically lost their lives in a recent helicopter crash.

This donation forms part of GLICO’s broader support in the wake of the tragedy, bringing the company’s total contributions to GHS2.1 million.

This includes GHS1.8 million in insurance benefits and donations to beneficiaries of the Gallant Eight, GHS100,000 to the President’s Children’s Trust Fund, GHS100,000 to the Ghana Armed Forces and the most recent GHS100,000 cash donation to the Ghana Air Force.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of GLICO General Insurance LTD, A. Achampong-Kyei, Esq., underscored the significance of the donation:

“Life contains uncertainties, often unimaginable, and every day presents an opportunity for us to create some certainties for an uncertain future. Whether through insurance or donation, our goal is singular: to provide a measure of comfort — a reminder that in grief, one is not abandoned. For over 20 years, GLICO has stood as a trusted insurer of the Ghana Air Force, when no other insurer was willing to take the risk of the military. Today’s gesture is a continuation of that enduring partnership, and a reaffirmation of our pledge: we cushion you for life.”

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Ghana Air Force, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, expressed gratitude, saying:“It shows that you always have our back because GLICO exists for times like this. It’s a gesture that I know will go a long way to support the families. I assure you that the donation will go right where it’s supposed to go.”

Mr. Achampong-Kyei, Esq., also used the occasion to call for a national reorientation towards insurance as a safety net:

“We cannot change the past, but we can choose the future. Let us not wait for the next calamity before we act. Insurance must no longer be seen as a luxury but a necessity — a true investment in peace of mind, family security, and national stability.”
