The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has commended the Ghana Police Service for its swift response in addressing recent assaults on media practitioners.
GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, noted that following earlier engagements with the police hierarchy over the assault of journalists during the Ablekuma North rerun and other incidents, the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohonu, acted promptly to resolve the matter.

He said this during a meeting between GJA executives and the Police Administration in Accra on Wednesday.
“After our presser, the IGP has shown much commitment in resolving the impasse between the security and the media and we must commend him for that,” he said.

“He demonstrated this by inviting me to his office last week to understand what is expected of them and to iron out and clear some of the issues that have been raised. He assured me that Mr President, this will never happen again under my tenure,” Mr. Dwumfour added.
Mr Dwumfour praised the Police Service for its decisive action, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to protecting press freedom and safeguarding journalists in the line of duty.
