India remains one of Ghana’s top ten trading partners, with annual bilateral trade exceeding $2 billion in recent years. Yet much of this relationship has operated under the radar, driven by quiet but impactful business alliances, diaspora investment, and mutual policy alignment in South-South cooperation.

With Modi’s high-profile visit punctuated by expected agreements and joint announcements the relationship is poised for greater visibility, structure, and strategic scale.

India’s Footprint in Ghana: From Commerce to Culture

Indian-owned multinationals and SMEs have maintained a strong and growing footprint in Ghana, particularly in pharmaceuticals, construction, renewable energy, and education. GITAC has worked closely with these entities to improve investor confidence, support regulatory navigation, and foster inclusive growth.

“The presence of Prime Minister Modi in Ghana is not only historic but also timely. It comes at a moment when the global economy is looking toward diversified partnerships. India and Ghana have a shared vision of progress, innovation, and people-centered development.”  Dr. Antwi noted.

Outlook: More Than Symbolism, A Strategic Turning Point

As both governments move to sign new agreements during Modi’s visit, GITAC believes the groundwork has already been laid for a new phase of economic diplomacy one focused on technology transfer, youth entrepreneurship, fintech collaboration, and green industrialization.
