Daddy Lumba

Ghanaians gathered at Black Star Square to mark the one-week observance of highlife legend Daddy Lumba with music, dance, and tributes.

The event, which attracted hundreds of mourners, including prominent figures from the creative arts and beyond, celebrated the legacy of the late musician through live performances of his timeless hits.

Artistes such as Amakye Dede, Sarkodie, Kofi Nti, and Bless delivered moving renditions of his songs, honouring the man whose music shaped generations and defined Ghana’s highlife scene.

The emotionally charged atmosphere reflected the profound cultural and social impact Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, had during his four-decade career.

Family representatives indicated that a state-assisted funeral and other commemorative activities would follow in the coming weeks to accord him a fitting farewell.

Daddy Lumba passed away on August 8, 2025, after a prolonged illness.

His extensive discography, including classics such as Makra Mo, Akwanoma, Aben Wo Ha, Mensei Da, and Sika, cemented his place among Ghana’s most influential musical icons.
