The Ghana Research and Innovation Commercialisation Centre (GRIC) is set to host the June edition of its Industry Brief Session this Thursday, June 26, 2025, focusing on the theme: “Promoting the Uptake of Cassava as an Industrial Crop in Ghana.”
The virtual session, scheduled for 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM GMT via Zoom, will feature a presentation by Dr. Gregory Komlaga, Deputy Director and Principal Research Scientist at the CSIR-Food Research Institute. Dr. Komlaga is expected to unveil groundbreaking research and technologies that position cassava as a viable raw material for industrial applications.
Participants will gain insight into innovative cassava-based products such as glucose syrup, adhesives, and high-quality flour, advancements that could significantly benefit Ghana’s confectionery, pharmaceutical, and brewing industries.
The upcoming session will underscore how homegrown technologies can open up new markets, enhance incomes for cassava farmers, and help reduce the country’s dependency on imported glucose syrup and similar industrial inputs. This will also help potentially elevate the food crop from just being used for “gari” and “Konkonte.”

Key discussion points will include;
•Technology-driven business opportunities for entrepreneurs
•Improved livelihoods for cassava growers through value addition
•Cost savings and import substitution in key sectors
Aligning with Ghana’s broader industrialisation agenda, it will seek to build stronger linkages between scientific research and private sector needs.
The session is free and open to industry players, researchers, entrepreneurs, and agribusiness stakeholders.
