In many parts of Ghana, our cities are getting bigger, but also greyer. New buildings and roads come up almost overnight, yet the trees, gardens and little green corners that make life calmer and healthier are quietly disappearing. For a long time, gardening was seen as something small and personal, not something that could shape communities or even support livelihoods.

More than a decade ago, Strategic Communications Africa (Stratcomm Africa) decided to change that. Led by its founder, Esther Cobbah, the team set out to spark a new way of thinking, to show that plants, flowers and green spaces can bring beauty, create jobs and make our cities better places to live. That small idea has since grown into the Ghana Garden & Flower Show, now one of the country’s most loved events.

And this year, it returns from 20–28 September 2025 at Efua Sutherland Park in Accra under the theme “Urban Places, Green Spaces”, once again inviting Ghanaians to reconnect with nature and rethink how greenery can shape the future of their cities.

From Modest Beginnings to a National Movement

The first Ghana Garden & Flower Show set out simply to encourage people to plant more, celebrate the country’s natural beauty and recognise the economic promise of floriculture. Yet it quickly became much more than that.

The Show has helped nurture a new generation of green entrepreneurs, offering florists, horticulturists and eco-focused businesses a platform to share their work with the world. It has brought environmental education to young people, sparking their curiosity and pride in caring for the planet. And it has opened new income streams, proving that gardening is not just a pastime but a real economic opportunity.

Beyond the business side, it has also shifted the national conversation about urban living, showing how green spaces can calm busy minds, bring neighbours together, and help cities withstand the effects of climate change. Thanks to Stratcomm Africa’s steady commitment, what started as a small gathering has become a flagship event that draws thousands of visitors each year, from government officials and business leaders to families and international partners.

The 2025 Theme: Urban Places, Green Spaces

This year’s theme, “Urban Places, Green Spaces”, could not be more timely. Accra and other Ghanaian cities are urbanising rapidly, with new roads, housing estates and commercial centres rising at a relentless pace. Yet as the concrete spreads, the green spaces that make urban life breathable and beautiful are fast disappearing.

Unchecked urban growth brings real challenges, hotter streets, more polluted air, fewer places for recreation and play, and shrinking biodiversity. The Show is shining a light on how greenery can help solve these problems. By putting urban greenery at the heart of this year’s conversations, Stratcomm Africa is reminding city planners, policymakers and everyday Ghanaians that green spaces are not luxuries. They are essential infrastructure, as vital to the health and wealth of our cities as roads and buildings.

Achievements and Impact

Over the past decade, the Ghana Garden & Flower Show has partnered with schools to introduce children to gardening early, planting eco-friendly values that may last a lifetime. It has supported women and youth-led enterprises in horticulture, helping turn their love of plants into thriving businesses.

What began as a display of flowers has now grown into a multi-layered platform, complete with conferences, workshops and masterclasses on landscaping, climate-smart agriculture and sustainable living. More than anything, the Show has created a sense of community, a place where people from different walks of life can come together to learn, exchange ideas and be inspired by the power of nature.

Looking Ahead

As the 2025 edition opens at Efua Sutherland Park, the vision is to build a greener, cleaner, healthier, wealthier and more beautiful Ghana. For many, visiting the Show has become an annual tradition, a chance to shop for plants, discover new skills, meet innovators, and reconnect with nature. That is the seed Stratcomm Africa planted more than a decade ago, and one that continues to grow.

This year’s edition, running from 20 to 28 September 2025, promises even more colour, creativity and inspiration, and everyone is invited to be part of it.

Whether you’re a plant lover, a budding entrepreneur, or just looking for a breath of fresh air in the city, the Ghana Garden & Flower Show is the perfect place to be.
