Ghana is exploring a potential partnership between Tema Port and the Port of Wilmington in Delaware as part of efforts to deepen trade relations with the United States.
The initiative was highlighted during the 14th Annual Pan-African Global Trade and Investment Conference in Delaware, where Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa delivered the keynote address. He also held discussions with Delaware Governor Matt Meyer, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing maritime connectivity.

The proposed port-to-port collaboration is expected to expand logistics capacity, improve access for Ghanaian exports into the U.S. market, and position Tema Port as a strategic hub for trans-Atlantic trade.
The conference, hosted by the Centre for Global Africa and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), brought together business leaders, policymakers, and development institutions to explore opportunities for enhancing African trade and investment. Ghana’s participation reinforced its strategy to attract international partnerships and leverage its role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat to drive regional and global integration.
