The Association of Cashew Processors, Ghana (ACPG), has set an ambitious goal to process 85,000 metric tons of cashew per year by 2026, a target projected to create thousands of jobs, raise farmer incomes, and strengthen Ghana’s global competitiveness in value-added cashew production.

The announcement followed a tour by the ACPG President in processing facilities across the Middle Belt, including Techiman and Sunyani, where the Association engaged processors, workers, and community leaders on the state of the industry.

Despite its potential, the sector faces persistent headwinds. Processors cited irregular supply of raw cashew nuts, volatile prices, high operating costs, limited access to affordable financing, and strong competition from raw nut exports. Other challenges include low adoption of modern processing technology, costly certification requirements for export markets, and weak enforcement of existing policies.

“These hurdles make it difficult for processors to operate at full capacity and to compete globally,” the Association observed.

The ACPG President said the Association intends to confront these bottlenecks through its Cashew Framework, which outlines measures to secure raw materials, improve processing standards, and expand both domestic and international market opportunities.

“This tour has given us firsthand insight into the pressing needs of our members. ACPG will continue to work with government, farmers, and development partners to ensure processors receive the support required to increase capacity and sustain jobs in Ghana,” the President emphasised.

If achieved, the 85,000-ton annual target will significantly expand Ghana’s processing base, generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, enhance farmer livelihoods, and advance the country’s ambition of becoming a leading hub for value-added cashew production.
