GBC workers demand immediate removal of Director-General

The Unionised Workers of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) are calling for the immediate removal of its Director-General, Professor Amin Alhassan.

In a media briefing, the Chairman of the union, Sam Nat Kevor, slammed the leadership of the corporation, stating, “Due to the actions and inactions of the Director General, things have rapidly deteriorated.

“There is now an increasing rate of deaths and an unprecedented rate of attrition among young and energetic staff.”

Mr Kevor accused the GBC Director-General of maladministration, belligerent leadership, financial mismanagement, neglecting staff welfare, and a severe decline in the corporation’s assets, including collapsed studios.

He further stated, “Reporters purchase their recorders, memory cards, and chips for reportage, and others at the various Divisional Departments use their personal computers.

“Video cameras have broken down and left to rot and no replacements have led to a shortage of cameras for daily coverage.”

The Chairman also listed the union’s demands: “The Director General of GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan, is simply out of tune with the aspirations of both the workers and the Corporation.

“Therefore, we humbly and respectfully but resolutely demand that his contract should not be extended.”

The union is mindful of GBC’s importance to national security and emphasised that their request aims to maintain the peace of both the corporation and the country.

They concluded by urging Alhassan to leave immediately.
