Former SWAG President Ackah passes on 

Mr. Ackah Anthony, former president of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), has passed away after a brief illness, Joy Sports, has learned.

He diligently served as head of the sports writers body from 2007 to 2015.

He passed away in the early hours of Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Police Hospital in Accra.

Mr. Ackah Anthony, who was also the former Assistant Editor of the Graphic Sports at the Graphic Communications Group Limited, was a seasoned columnist who also authored the ‘Candid Corner’ column on the back page the Mirror Newspaper. 

The column, which was much sought after and widely-read, tackled major issues in the sporting industry in Ghana and conveyed truth to authority.

During his tenure as the sixth president of SWAG, he led consistent advocacy on many major issues in the industry. Mr Anthony also successfully led the organization of many memorable editions of the annual SWAG Awards, which is Ghana’s oldest awards scheme.

Mr Anthony also spearheaded the redesigning and renovation of the current SWAG Club House in Dansoman, Accra. 

Added to these, he led a nationwide membership drive for the sports writers body, serving as the 6th president of SWAG.

He was survived by a wife, Evelyn, a former director of the Ministry of Information, and four children.
