Road engineers and transport specialists from ECOWAS member states conducted a field visit to Senegal on June 28, 2025, examining the Dakar Regional Express Train (TER) and Dakar-Diamniadio-Thiès Highway.
The mission, part of a technical workshop for the Praia-Dakar-Abidjan corridor studies, focused on financing, operations, and maintenance frameworks for major infrastructure.
Participants analyzed Senegal’s TER system featuring 36 km of track, 13 stations, and 15 dual-mode trains alongside concession-managed highways.
Key discussion areas included signaling protocols, revenue management, safety standards, and public-private partnership structures. The visit aimed to share operational best practices across West Africa.
ECOWAS emphasized local expertise in boosting urban mobility, youth employment, and economic growth. Insights from Senegal’s projects will inform future regional transport initiatives, particularly mass transit systems under development.
