Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) will conduct a rerun election in 19 of 37 contested polling stations in Ablekuma North constituency on July 11, 2025, following unresolved disputes over scanned result sheets.
Deputy EC Chairman Samuel Tettey announced the decision on July 2 after failed mediation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The rerun was deemed necessary after Presiding Officers could not verify 19 scanned results used in collation, despite prior approval from both parties’ agents. The EC confirmed 18 other stations had validated results and require no rerun.
Both parties maintained irreconcilable positions:
-
The NDC demanded a full rerun across all 37 stations, citing reliance on NPP-provided scanned “pink sheets.”
-
The NPP urged collating results from 3 outstanding stations, citing NDC agents’ prior verification of their documents.
The dispute stems from December 7 general elections, where supporters destroyed original pink sheets during collation chaos. The EC has called on Ghana Police Service to secure the July 11 rerun.
Affected Polling Stations:
God First International School (Darkuman), Pentecost Church (Kwashieman), DVLA Office (Awoshie), Asiedu Gyeudu Memorial School (Awoshie), and 15 others across Otaten, Sakaman, and Tsuimami.
