DreamPower Africa, a trailblazer in clean energy and electric mobility, has pledged its full support to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as the institution pursues an ambition of clean energy towards the attainment of net zero carbon emissions by 2035.
In a strategic meeting held on Wednesday, DreamPower Africa proposed a landmark partnership with KNUST, headlined by the establishment of an Innovation Institute for Sustainable Energy. The institute is envisioned as a national center for research, capacity building, and entrepreneurship in clean energy, e-mobility, and the circular economy.
KNUST has set a target of achieving 50% of renewable energy by 2023, and the partnership will be a critical pillar in advancing this agenda.

Led by CEO Andre Labuschagne, the DreamPower delegation expressed a strong commitment to helping KNUST overcome both technical and financial barriers that have slowed its energy transition.
KNUST Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, welcomed the initiative, noting that the university’s current renewable energy generation is just 2.2 megawatts out of a peak demand of 8 megawatts. This, she says, is well below its desired trajectory. She therefore underscored the need for innovative financing and technical support to accelerate progress.
DreamPower’s Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Onyinah Karikari, outlined plans to deploy advanced solar technologies, battery storage systems, and electric mobility infrastructure on campus.
The proposed Innovation Institute will also serve as a launchpad for sustainable startups, technical training programs, and SME development, ensuring the transition to clean energy also drives inclusive economic growth.

Nicholas Kohne, DreamPower’s Chief Technical Officer, underscored the company’s commitment to aligning global expertise with local action. “Supporting KNUST is just the beginning. Ghana has what it takes to lead Africa’s just and inclusive energy transition, and we are proud to be part of that journey.”
DreamPower Africa’s partnership proposal aligns with Ghana’s Green Transition Agenda, Vision 2025, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The company is inviting the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and other stakeholders to engage in activating the first phase of implementation.
