Africa’s richest man to open new cement plant in Côte d’Ivoire amid expansion drive

Dangote Cement Plc has announced plans to commission its 3 million metric tonnes per annum (Mta) grinding plant in Côte d’Ivoire.

Dangote Cement Plc has announced plans to commission its 3 million metric tonnes per annum (Mta) grinding plant in Côte d’Ivoire by the third quarter of 2025, reinforcing its expansion drive across Africa.

The facility, which will bolster the company’s regional production and export capacity, marks a key milestone in its pan-African strategy.

“Export volumes from Nigeria increased by 18.2%, with 18 successful clinker shipments made to Ghana and Cameroon. This demonstrates the growing importance of our pan-African footprint and our ongoing commitment to regional trade and self-sufficiency,” he said.

Pathak also revealed that the company’s strategic priorities remain focused on creating long-term value. He said Dangote Cement has made significant progress in further strengthening its cost architecture.

"During the period, we began the phased delivery of 1,600 additional CNG-powered trucks, which will significantly reduce our logistics costs and enhance environmental efficiency.”

This week, Dangote Cement Plc recorded its strongest profit growth in nearly six years, fueled by a stable naira and a rise in cement prices.

Expansion drive

Dangote Cement remains Africa’s largest cement producer, operateing in over 10 African markets, including Tanzania, South Africa, Ethiopia, Cameroon, the Republic of Congo, and Ghana.

Dangote Cement has a total installed capacity of 48.6 million tonnes per annum (Mt/a) across Africa. Of this, Nigeria accounts for 32.3 Mt/a, while the remaining 16.3 Mt/a is spread across nine other African countries.

As part of its expansion drive, Dangote Cement resumed construction in March on its $800 million cement plant in Itori, located in Ogun State’s Ewekoro Local Government Area. The 6-million-metric-tonnes-per-annum (Mt/a) facility is expected to be completed by November 2026.
