Cercle Brugge midfielder Lawrence Agyekum is hoping to nail down a place in the Black Stars team after his recent call-up to the team.
After a fine season with the Belgian side, Agyekum impressed for Ghana during last month’s Unity Cup competition, coming off the bench to score in the Black Stars’ 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff game.
The 21-year-old made his Black Stars debut during the 5-0 thumping win over Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In an exclusive interview with Joy Sports, the midfielder hopes to be a mainstay in the Ghana team.
“I wasn’t surprised at scoring against Trinidad and Tobago because I knew I had to score,” he said as he talked about his maiden goal for the national team.

“Now I want to keep focusing on my development to be consistent at the club level, because if you don’t well it’s going to be difficult to get a national team call-up.
“I just want to be consistent and then hopefully if I get a call-up, I will still give my 100% on the pitch like I do at the club level.”
Agyekum only signed a permanent deal with Cercle Brugge before the end of the season, but the youngster has been linked with a move away from the Jupiler Pro League, with Feyenoord and Strasbourg said to be interested.
