The Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana (CIB Ghana), has launched a trio of transformative initiatives aimed at raising professional standards, strengthening , and accelerating across the country’s banking industry.

At an event held at its East Legon Head Office in Accra and attended by key industry stakeholders including Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, Governor of the (BoG), the Institute unveiled its new , the Branch CEO Programme, and a revitalised edition of The Ghanaian Banker Magazine.

CIB Ghana President Mr. Benjamin Amenumey, FCIB, and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Robert Dzato, ACIB, described the launch as a timely intervention to support the banking sector amid fast-paced digitalisation, tightening regulations, and increasing cybersecurity threats.

“The banking industry is at a pivotal moment. Through these initiatives, we are equipping professionals with cutting-edge skills, fostering knowledge-sharing, and driving to ensure Ghana’s financial sector remains resilient and competitive,” said Mr. Dzato.

Digital Skills for the Future

At the core of the launch is the DigitalAcademy, an e-learning platform designed to upskill Ghanaian bankers in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, , and fintech. It provides accessible, modular to professionals navigating the digital evolution of financial services.

Grooming the Next Generation of Banking Leaders

The BranchCEOProgramme is a leadership initiative targeting Branch, Regional, and Operational Managers. Designed as a fast-track route to the Associate Chartered Banker (ACIB) designation, the programme is delivered in three stages and focuses on key areas including risk management, digital banking, and regulatory compliance. Progression requires participants to score a minimum of 50 percent in assessments, ensuring high academic and professional standards.

Knowledge-Sharing for Sector Growth

The third pillar of the event was the relaunch of The Ghanaian Banker Magazine. The redesigned publication aims to deepen industry insights, foster dialogue, and provide a platform for expert commentary and research relevant to the banking sector.

“The Branch CEO Programme, alongside the Digital Academy and The Ghanaian Banker Magazine, demonstrates CIB Ghana’s commitment to advancing professionalism in banking,” he said, adding that these initiatives support the BoG’s vision of a digitally inclusive and ethically grounded financial sector.

Sector-wide Impact

Vice President of the Institute, Mr. Samuel Manu Asiama, noted that the launch signals a paradigm shift.

“This launch marks not just a milestone, but a movement. By empowering professionals at all levels, we are setting a new standard for ethical, informed, and agile banking in Ghana,” he said.

With these initiatives, CIB Ghana is positioning itself at the forefront of capacity-building and thought leadership in the financial sector, reinforcing its mission to shape the future of banking in the country through education, innovation, and excellence.
