Beyond Bounds: KNUST fashion graduates redefine style at 2025 show

Final-year fashion students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi have unveiled a collection of designs at the 2025 Graduate Exhibition and Fashion Show, held under the theme Meta-Oria, meaning “beyond bounds.”

The event, organised by the Department of Industrial Art, featured a runway presentation and sales exhibition, showcasing work that blended artistic innovation with market-ready design. Styles ranged from contemporary streetwear to formal office attire.

Prof. Ebenezer Howard, Head of the Department, said the university is driving innovation in design education.
“KNUST is at the forefront of innovation,” he told attendees. “Our strength lies in translating theory into practice. We research to create and that’s what makes us different.”

He added that the department is aligning its curriculum with industry needs to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“Industry needs us, and we’re here to make the change,” he said.

The exhibition attracted dozens of parents and guardians, many expressing pride in the creative growth of their wards over the four-year programme.
“Seeing my ward design these clothes makes me very proud,” said Lydia, a parent.

Citations were presented to individuals who contributed to the event’s success. Judge Dr. Kwabena Asubonteng praised the students’ work.

“Every year I see progress. The designers have demonstrated originality, creativity, styling, faith and superb presentation. You wouldn’t even imagine the students’ work we’re showcasing this evening. That shows the future is brighter. You’ve all done amazingly well,” he said.

Constance Dontwi was named second runner-up, Evita Gado Wintima took first runner-up, and Eyram Rosemond Narteh won overall best designer. The best exhibitor award went to Mary Borteley Kwao.
