The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has launched a 24-hour banking service at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in Tema to support the government’s newly rolled out 24-hour port service initiative.

Effective July 1, 2025, the initiative will allow importers, exporters, freight forwarders, and port stakeholders to pay GPHA handling charges at any time, day or night, ensuring seamless cargo movement and logistics operations.

Speaking on the development, Edward Ato Sarpong, Managing Director of ADB, described the move as a strategic intervention aligned with the government’s broader 24-hour economy agenda aimed at creating jobs, boosting exports, and enhancing productivity.

ADB Rolls Out 24-Hour Banking at Tema Port to Power Ghana’s Round-the-Clock Economy

“The 24-hour economy is not just about working round the clock but it’s about creating added value and decent jobs towards higher productivity,” he noted.

Ato Sarpong explained that the Bank’s round-the-clock service is designed to address the unique operational demands of freight forwarders, customs clearing agents, shipping companies, traders, and customers working irregular hours to meet tight logistics schedules.

“By providing 24-hour banking service, ADB is ensuring port stakeholders have convenient access to perform financial transactions needed to keep their operations moving efficiently,” he said.

Nationwide Expansion Planned

He revealed that ADB plans to extend the 24-hour banking service to other payment collection points nationwide to boost economic activities in line with the Bank’s new tagline “Beyond Banking…”, reflecting its commitment to innovative, customer-centric solutions.

“Beyond Banking…” he stressed, signifies ADB’s pledge to go beyond traditional banking to enhance customer experience across all sectors.

Ato Sarpong urged customers to leverage the Bank’s 24-hour service at Tema Port to facilitate their businesses efficiently and competitively within Ghana’s evolving 24-hour economic ecosystem.
