The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, raising fresh questions about deepening tensions within the party’s Ablekuma North constituency.
The meeting, ordered by national second chairperson Rita Talata Asobayire, is set for Monday, 7 July 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down.
A notice signed by general secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong lists “Ablekuma North and matters arising” as the main agenda, fuelling speculation over unresolved internal disputes and power struggles.
Party insiders suggest recent disagreements in Ablekuma North, reportedly involving factional clashes and candidate selection issues, have forced the leadership to act swiftly to prevent further cracks in the party’s base.
While official details remain scarce, sources say the leadership is under pressure to calm tensions ahead of upcoming national activities and to reaffirm party unity.
The emergency meeting is expected to bring together key national executives and stakeholders, with many observers viewing it as a critical test of the NPP’s internal cohesion and crisis management.
Political analysts believe how the leadership handles the outcome could shape the party’s strength going into future electoral contests.
