Ablekuma North: Here are the 19 polling stations where EC will re-run parliamentary election

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a re-run of the parliamentary election in some 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.

The re-run is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 11th July, 2024.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 2, the Commission indicated that the decision is part of efforts to resolve the impasse surrounding the Ablekuma North parliamentary results in the 2024 general elections.

The constituency has remained without a declared Member of Parliament following disturbances that disrupted the collation process.

The background to the electoral dispute dates back to December 2024 when chaotic scenes marred the collation of results. Supporters of the two main political parties, NPP and NDC, reportedly clashed at the constituency collation centre, resulting in the destruction of electoral materials and halting the counting process.

The Electoral Commission, citing security concerns, suspended the collation on multiple occasions.

Earlier attempts to resume the exercise were unsuccessful, with political tensions and logistical challenges further delaying the outcome.

The EC has since worked with security agencies and leaders of the two main parties to ensure that the re-run proceeds smoothly and without incident.

The Commission has assured the public of its commitment to electoral transparency and urged all stakeholders, particularly political parties and their supporters, to cooperate fully to ensure a peaceful and credible process.
