The Interior Minister, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has inaugurated a newly constituted 15-member Governing Board of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), with a strong call for enhanced action against illicit drug trafficking.

At the inauguration ceremony held in Accra on Wednesday, the Minister emphasized the urgent need to combat the growing threat of organized transnational drug crime, which he noted has devastating consequences, especially on Ghana’s youth.

“This inauguration reaffirms the Government’s unwavering commitment to transparency, professionalism, and strong institutional leadership in addressing the narcotics threat,” he stated.

Alhaji Muntaka charged the Board members to carry out their mandate with “boldness, humility, and integrity.” He urged the Board Chairman to foster collaboration among members and inspire a culture of excellence within the Commission.

Expressing his confidence in the new team, the Minister said he believes the Board will uphold the highest standards of public service and remain focused on delivering its critical mandate.

The newly appointed Board is chaired by Commissioner of Police (Rtd.) Bright Oduro, who pledged the Commission’s continued dedication to protecting society from the harmful impact of illegal drugs. He also assured of intensified public education efforts aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of narcotic abuse.

The Board is expected to provide strategic guidance to NACOC in its efforts to prevent, control, and eliminate narcotic drug-related offenses in Ghana.
